Cécile Verny has been hailed as one of
the great European jazz divas for quite a long time. Now she is really
entering the spotlight after receiving two awards in the newcomer competition
of "Jazz à Juan", Antibes. The international festival in southern
France is a summit of today's jazz scene with one newcomer artist joining
the stars on the central stage in Juan-les-Pins. Cécile Verny and
her quartet, who were awarded best group of the category "vocal jazz" and
were awarded the jury's "Grand Prize", will perform in a double concert
with jazz legend Herbie Hancock on July 16th.
For many years, Cécile and the band have
been working on a repertoire of originals and a few select jazz standards,
creating a unique style and a strong musical identity. As a consequence
of this work and an endless number of concerts in countries around the
world, Cécile Verny (vocals), Andreas Erchinger (piano), Bernd Heitzler
(bass) and Torsten Krill (drums) now seem to be making their breakthrough
on the international jazz scene.
