Cécile Verny - The Bitter and the Sweet

The Franco-African jazz singer Cécile Verny, who entered the German jazz charts in Spring 05 to place at 13 with her album “European Songbook”, has set yet a further milestone along her musical path with a new program “The Bitter and the Sweet”, continuing the tradition for which her ensemble has long been celebrated across Europe.
Cécile Verny applies African roots, French song tradition and smooth jazz scatacrobatics to unite the rhythmic pulsing compositions of her quartet.
Cécile Verny was born on the Ivory Coast, raised in France and lives today in Germany. She sings in English and in her native language French. She is a singer who knows intuitively how to make magic and even more, how to do it with her ensemble; dreamy songs with incredible intensity, swing and blues that tingle and drive, chanson sounds full of warmth.
In the new concert program her incredible voice sounds more personal than ever before. Opposites begin to attract; the bitter and the sweet, the hot and the cold, the melancholy and the hopeful, the energetic and the elegiac, the African and the European, the extravagant and the intimate.
Excellent musicians accompany her, highly inspired and very skilled, their performance demonstrates modern jazz at it’s best played along the familiar lines of we’re-a-band.
“At last a singer who doesn't copy either Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday” (ZEIT)

Euro-African jazz perhaps? Exotic and yet somehow classic:
The Cécil Verny Quartet represents jazz in the 21st century

The Quartet:

Torsten Krill: drums < > Andreas Erchinger: piano < >Bernd Heitzler: bass < > Cécile Verny: voc
